NorsePlay at Southwest Frith Moot!

Image
NorsePlay was proud to provide boardgames at 2018's Southwest Frith Moot! While one would think the Kubb set in the duffel would've gotten alot of play in the great outdoors campground setting, it was Jenga that got all the love from kids who both played it correctly and as just a set of simple blocks to build with. [For more on this event, go to http://southwestfrithmoot.org/ , and a post on the pictured Odin's Ravens game] #    #    # Guillermo Maytorena IV knew there was something special in  the Norse Lore when he picked up a copy of the d'Aulaires'  Norse Gods and Giants  at age seven. the NorsePlay logo!

Image
NorsePlay introduces our very own NorsePlay logo! We've re-imagined the triple horn design with upturned mouths, a dynamically wider space on the inside, and added woodcut style shading. Originally on the Snoldelev Runestone, the trihorn design is probably an icon for Óðrerir, Boðn, & Són , the three vessels that hold the all-inspiring Mead of Poetry , as related by the Prose Edda . smooth talking the Mead of Poetry.

Bolverk, secretly Odin, runs serious game on Gunnlöd to score some quality time with her & win the ultimate in free drinks -- the Mead of Poetry. Note the huge Óðrerir vessel in the foreground from which we can infer where Thor gets his drinking skills from, since Odin is supposed to empty that in a single draught. The treasured containers for the Mead of Poetry, tri-horn vessels Óðrerir, Boðn, & Són crafted by Grimfrost for Vikings show creator/writer Michael Hirst. American Gods dressed in leather.

Image
Possibly the most popular NorsePlay lit to date, Neil Gaiman's American Gods . While we prefer the 10th anniversary author's preferred text edition for reading, we've selected this Barnes & Noble leather edition to show off its handsome foil-stamped cover, faux french spine, the Óðrerir/Triple Horn Of Odin symbol on the front left in a bit too-clever post-modern contrast with the biohazard symbol on the front right, and Mjölnir nesting in gold on the rear bottom center. Stay tuned for the Starz TV series adaptation next year. #    #    # Guillermo Maytorena IV knew there was something special in  the Norse Lore when he picked up a copy of the d'Aulaires'  Norse Gods and Giants  at age seven.
