Made for The Making of Middle Earth book, the author wanted to show where Tolkien got the concept of "Middle-earth" as the name for the world, which is, of course, from the Norse Lore. Dwarves get NorsePlay'd as "Squats" in the grim future of Warhammer 40K. These once-human colonists were separated from their intergalactic forefathers on high-gravity mining worlds for millennia. In the interim they grew, well, squatter in build and essentially became super crafty space dwarves who came up with this Overlord Airship , first for mining gaseous giants of their atmospheric liquid metals, then adapting them for battle.
