Loki's lost hammer?!?

Image
Possibly inspired by the idea of  Disney's multiversal Boastful Loki 's hammer, this 1lb 8 3⁄4 oz wooden mallet is Såssnir the Lost, Loki's lost War Hammer! This one-of-a-kind creation made of ancient reclaimed oak, white ash, & purpleheart is an Etsy offering from OutlawArtbyJAMES, who invented this flavor text lore for it: "Såssnir the Lost is the prized war hammer of the God of Sass - Loki! Who knew Loki had a war hammer with the same power as Thor's Mjölnir? Whomever owns Såssnir is granted the power of the Sassy Asgard"! And it even comes with a Pokémon-style item card: Whatever this other hammer 's provenance or special powers, it wouldn't hurt to have this in the car or carried on your person , just in case of giant problems that require such a solution. [go get Såssnir here , or maybe get a custom NorsePlay'd commission from them and let us know about it.] #    #    # Guillermo Maytorena IV knew there was something special in  the Nors...

the possible variants of Mjölnir.

The flaw of the short handle was just one possible outcome in the creation of Mjölnir. What if Loki's horsefly form had stung a bit harder? Or, what if Brokkr hadn't paused at all? What if Eitri & Brokkr had extra time to forge something even more artful if they hadn't been on a deadline for the crafting contest? What if they had integrated additional mystical materials? Could a more infused hammer defeat Jörmungandr from a greater distance to save Thor from the serpent's poison at  Ragnarök ? In Thor concept artist Charlie Wen's multiple hammer design submissions, we see the implications of the above questions NorsePlay out. And maybe it isn't too late for the Thunderer to go get some hardware upgrades and change his fate. #    #    # Guillermo Maytorena IV knew there was something special in  the Norse Lore when he picked up a copy of the d'Aulaires'  Norse Gods and Giants  at age seven. A warhammer crafted for play in Amtgard! We appreciate the Valknut design on black "iron" padding, and wonder if this may be a way to acquire some applied warhammerist sparring skills. Do any of you participate in Amtgard? I invented the warhammer clamp.

In the Norse Lore, Thor has the convenience of a warhammer which, thanks to dwarven craftsmanship, reduces in size to fit in his pocket or be worn as a pendant (yes, anyone wearing a Mjölnir necklace could be  that  Odinson among us, so watch yourself). Yet, short of some atomic-chain matter folding nano-technology, bearing a warhammer for the rest of us tends to be rather cumbersome. Many have stated that necessity is the mother of invention, or argued that war is the father of innovation. The  medieval warhammer was invented as an anti-armor weapon , something that crushes & claws into plate steel. Aside from keeping this weapon in hand, or tucking it into your belt, there historically was no other easier method of carry. But why hadn't those knights & soldiers who'd worn a scabbard or quiver on their backs thought of something similar for their warhammer? Five-hundred years later, Guillermo the IVth finally invents the warhammer clamp, addi...

first Mjölnir, second Stormbreaker, and third ... ?

We've always liked the idea of Mjölnir's brother hammer, Stormbreaker. Marvel's bold NorsePlay begs the question: If dwarven forgemasters Sindri & Brokkr could fashion one smarthammer weapon, what was there to stop them from turning their prodigious skills toward making another ? [Or another ?] #    #    # Guillermo Maytorena IV knew there was something special in  the Norse Lore when he picked up a copy of the d'Aulaires'  Norse Gods and Giants  at age seven. Designwise, if one were to imagine the dwarven team of Eitri & Brokkr competing for the prestige of favoured crafters of the Aesir, a high polish faceted head and hammered handle may very well have been what they came up with. Brutal, beautiful, impressive. From Sabersmith Inc's Thor's Hammer line, a warhammer drilled to reduce weight for greater striking speed & recovery. This facet of construction could also NorsePlay into Mjölnir's origins of being incompletely forged by distracted dwarves Sindri & Brokkr. #    #    # Guillermo Maytorena IV knew there was something special in  the Norse Lore when he picked up a copy of the d'Aulaires'  Norse Gods and Giants  at age seven.
